SUBURBS OF THE MIND: ILLUSION AND DELUSION

Here are the streets of commonplace
where wind evens out the score,
dwindling down the almost great
and those who dare to think of more.

Here are the streets of assent, array,
where flowers bloom in strictured lines,
where children in careful clothing play
and lead their lives by ordered times.

In ruts and ridges paper swirls.
Through panes of glass gaze cautious eyes,
remark upon the length of grass
and how a neighbour’s new child cries.

Here is the road to no event.
The creeks through concrete gutters wind.
Here our dreams are lost and spent
and our lives are left behind.
